Outdoor Adventure Program
Fun is a key element to LEAD and so is outdoor adventure. LEAD's Outdoor Adventure Program provides instruction and environmental education opportunities and promotes the safe use of natural resources and an understanding of the importance of preservation. LEAD serves low-income teens who often times have never been able to experience the outdoors through such activities as white-water rafting, horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking, skiing, or scuba diving. Each LEAD group goes on one full-day adventure trip a month. At the end of the year, each group goes on a week long river camping trip.  This year we''ll be rafting on the Deschutes River and the North Umpqua River.

The following is a sample list of annual outdoor adventure activities:

September: White water rafting on the McKenzie River
October: Spencer Butte Challenge Course, Rock Climbing
November: Horse Back Riding at the Coast
December: Ice Skating
January: Cross Country Skiing, Snow cave building
February: Snow shoe Day—Willamette Pass
March: Hiking and Mountain Biking, Scuba Diving
April: Spencer Butte Challenge Course, Sailing
May: White Water Rafting, Fly fishing
June: One week long River Camping Trip
